Stock prices were mixed in quiet mid-day trading today as investors ponderedthe U.S. dollar's weakness in foreign exchange. The market got off to a shaky start, with the Dow average falling about 11 points shortly after the opening bell, in reaction to the U.S. dollar's weakness. The U.S. currency had firmed in early trading but fell off amid speculation that West Germany's central bank won't cut a key interest rate as had been widely expected.
